Digital solutions that enable sustainable food production

What started as manual milking equipment has today made DeLaval a world leader within the dairy industry. A lot has happened since Gustaf de Laval started the company 140 years ago, but the main purpose has always been the same; to improve production, the animal welfare and the daily life of the world’s dairy farmers.

A company founded in the 19th century that is constantly staying up to date – that’s DeLaval. To continue to live up to the vision, we make sustainable food production possible, digital and automated solutions have in recent years taken an increasingly large place in the product portfolio. Especially when today’s dairy farmers are looking for solutions that can simplify and improve their way of working.

“Our solutions have a very high degree of automation and by connecting digital services to our equipment, dairy farmers get a better overview of their production. This results in a better quality of life for the animals, it also improves animal health and increases the possibility to increase milk production that leads to a lower climate footprint,” explains Jonny Engel, CIO at DeLaval.

“DeLaval is somewhat of a little big company that is represented in more than 100 countries around the world. Being a global, but still small, company is perhaps most noticeable in the way we work within our teams. The working method is internationally oriented, always with closeness to make quick decisions within your own field,” Jonny continues.

At the head office in Tumba, DeLaval works to improve the digital solutions that set the tone for the future of milk production.

“To remain a leader in the dairy industry DeLaval is constantly on the lookout for new talent – with a hungry startup mentality maintained and a desire to do something good for the world,” Karolina Rafferty, Business Solutions Director at DeLaval points out.

“We have a broad responsibility, and we get the opportunity to work with cutting-edge modern technology that can really make a difference. I think these are some of the reasons why many colleagues choose to start working at DeLaval, because it is a company with a real purpose. Just as our customers are loyal to our products, we have employees who have stayed with us for a very long time and really enjoy their job,” says Jonny Engel.

“We are not a huge organization, so we really help each other and tackle problems we encounter along the way together. You need a bit of a startup mentality here, which might sound a bit odd given how old the company is. We are just at the beginning of a great transformation journey where we are looking to hire more resources within IT.

With DeLaval you get the opportunity to both contribute with deep technical expertise along with a broad responsibility in close dialogue with our business, which is something many colleagues think is a very good combination,” concludes Karolina Rafferty.
